Mulgrew Miller, man oh man! So sorry to hear of his transition, also thankful of the inspiration forever ... he left for us !!! I didn't know him personally, but in 1976 guitarist Keven Johnson kept telling me I had to meet Mulgrew. They were very good friends. Never heard that name before and it was interesting to say his name over and over in my brain. This was in L.A. by the way. One night we went to the USC Hilton where he was playing. Johnny Jones was on bass guitar. So I sat in on Giant Steps with him (he on electric piano me on fenderbass). Well, I petered out after the 2 or 3 courses of my solo. Mulgrew took me the rest of the way and head on out. I have to say it was fun because of his warmth and generosity (all smiles). When I tried to apologize, he said "you was cool I know where you at". Well I felt great! But can't say I knew where I was musically at that time. Slept well that night though! We all chatted the rest of the night. But, I remember Mulgrew saying that was the last time he would be on that type of gig again. The rest is history. Thank the Creator !! Love you, Thank you !!!
